Testimonials from the Community
The chartering of a Toronto AKA chapter will help cultivate sisterhood among Black, university-educated women who will further encourage scholarship and community service in Toronto. With this chapter, women of colour in our community will have the opportunity to foster friendships and build important social networks that are invaluable to building our communities. Moreover, these women will be able to contribute to the betterment of our society by helping to improve the social and economic conditions of those living in Toronto through AKA's remarkable initiatives.
- Hon. Mitzie Hunter, MPP for Scarborough-Guildwood
Since its founding at Howard University more than a century ago, AKA has grown to become a powerful, international champion of academic excellence, social responsibility and community activism. More of these good works are certainly welcome in Toronto.
- Michael Thompson, Councillor, Scarborough Centre
Our community is in need of strong leadership and organizations that can bring about systemic change to plan adequately for the increasing and changing needs of the community... I have no doubt that a chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will have a positive impact on the City of Toronto and beyond.
- Ron Rock, Executive Director, East Scarborough Boys and Girls Club
The benefits that AKA, as a Black focused organization, led by women for women in the GTA is immeasurable for TAIBU and for the community.
